Thank you to everyone who assisted with our most recent Covid-19 Honey Bee initiative. We managed to order a total of 101 crocheted bees- of which 78 were donated, 17 were collected and 8 were delivered!
The second set of beneficiaries to receive the donated crotchet bee toys were the children from Doors of Hope Children's Mission, in Berea, Johannesburg.
Abandonment of infants in South Africa is, unfortunately, a common occurrence. Many of these children are left to die, or simply abandoned, in dustbins, open fields, public toilets or on train tracks. Doors of Hope decided to try make a difference and has now been operating for 21 years- managing to help a total of 1719 babies and facilitating 744 adoptions. They currently have 69 babies in their care, with an average cost of care per baby at R5,000.00 per month. Doors of Hope endeavours to have each child either adopted, reunited with extended family, moved to a specialist home, or as a final resort join the Door of Hope Village family.
Their mission: "is fourfold- Saving Abandoned Babies, Bringing Children Home, Building People of Character and Bridging a Better World".
